Discover the Evolutionary Journey of Air

Willis Carrier is the name behind the invention of air conditioner which we use in our daily life with ease to cool the temperature in our surroundings.

In 1915, excited by success, Carrier and six engineer friends raised $32,600 to form the Carrier Engineering Company, dedicated to the technological innovation of its unique product, air conditioning.

During those years, his main objective was to improve the development of industrial processes with machines that allow control of temperature and humidity. For nearly two decades, the use of air conditioning was aimed at industry rather than people.

In 1921, Willis Carrier patented cooling machine centrifuge, also known as centrifugal chiller refrigerant or centrifugation, it was the first method to condition air in large spaces.

The new system was released in 1924 in Hudson Department Store in Detroit, Michigan. Those attending the popular selling basement felt dizzy from the heat due to bad ventilation system, so three refrigerants were installed to cool the floor and shortly afterwards devices were installed throughout the store.

Its use went from department stores to cinemas. The litmus test was introduced in 1925, when Rivoli Theater in New York asked the young company to install cooling equipment. A large advertising campaign, which caused long lines of people formed at the door of the cinema was held.

The film was screened that night was forgotten, but not the refreshing air-conditioned comfort. The industry grew rapidly. Many Americans enjoyed for the first time the experience of not having to suffer in theaters by heat since the owners installed equipment to increase attendance during the hot and humid summer days.

The industry grew rapidly and five years later, around 300 cinemas had installed air conditioning. The success was such that immediately these machines were installed in hospitals, offices, airports and hotels.

In 1928, Carrier developed the first devices to circulate air for houses and apartments, but the Great Depression ended the air conditioning in homes. Sales of equipment for residential use did not begin until after World War II. Thereafter, the air-conditioned comfort spread throughout the world.

Heat and cold people feel not only depends on the ambient temperature, but it also depends upon humidity and proper air distribution. The air conditioning is the treatment process that simultaneously controls air temperature, humidity, cleanliness and distribution to meet the requirements of the conditioned space.

Heat is a form of energy directly related to the molecular vibration. When we heat a substance, its molecules move quickly, thus, generating energy, heat. If chilled, the molecular motion stops, lowering the temperature.

Humidity refers to the amount of water contained in the air. The ambient air is controlled to maintain the predetermined relative humidity by humidification or dehumidification of ambient air. To obtain the desired comfort, it is necessary that the air is evenly distributed and circulate throughout the grounds without producing unpleasant currents.

The air conditioning invented by Willis Carrier has made ??possible the development of many tropical and desert areas of the world that depend on the ability to control their environment. Please, visit to hire the best services for heating and cooling systems.
